What’s this?

It appears that, despite my strenuous protestations and endless campaigning, this whole Internet thing is here to stay.  I’m not a technophobe–I do enjoy electricity and I am not willing to give up indoor plumbing, after all–but I am cantankerous and contrary and old fashioned, so the prospect of filling up a vast imaginary space with everyone’s virtual selves is just a bit, well, oogy.  Look it up.

It also appears that you’re no one till you have at least some sort of representation of yourself on this demonic networking device, and that’s just not fair.  How many people around the world don’t even have a computer, much less an internet connection?  I’m not interested in looking this up right now, but I’d bet my Victrola that it’s a big number.  Huge, even.  So, there are all these interesting people who, for all intents and purposes, don’t exist in this modern world, and who I’ll never meet because they don’t have a blog where they talk about their trip to the river to wash their clothes this morning, or a flickr account where they can post their pictures of the chicken that was going to be tonight’s meal but that was able to run just a bit faster than they could, or a wish list on amazon.com where they can wish for a CD player or the new Tom Cruise movie or a stick.

And I suppose that’s just as well because I probably wouldn’t like them if I met them anyway.  I’m not even sure they even exist because I can’t find them listed in facebook!  Not a myspace page among them.

So my penchant for anonymity aside, here is a blog that I wrote and may or may not continue to write.  If you were feverishly searching the internet for employment opportunities, or applied emplacement or something like that and you accidentally landed here, then please accept my apologies.  Get outta here already, that job market won’t wait for you!  If you have a predilection for reading pointless musings, then accept my pity.  We all have our faults.

And what exactly is “annoyment”?  It’s a term coined by a wise young man that I know that in its loosest definition refers to something annoying that is still somehow entertaining.  I promise this will be annoying, but I can’t guarantee entertainment.

Thanks for stopping by.

    41.

That’s the statistic you were too lazy to look for: There are approximately 41 people…wait, make that 39… in the world who don’t have Internet access. So don’t feel bad about foisting another blog on us! It’s all good.
